Bet you’ve never heard of a high-performance economy car, before, have you? In fact, you probably think they don’t exist, but they do! Take the base Porsche Carrera. It zips from 0 to 60 in 4.6 seconds, and it has a top end in the 140s while returning 28 mpg on the highway. And, then there’s the Alfa 4C. The sleek coupe turns in 28 mpg, combined while clocking under six seconds from 0 to 60.
By now, you are probably wondering whether there are other similar vehicles on the market, right. The editors at Forbes wondered about the same thing. They put their collective heads together, looked at the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) mileage ratings and found the Fast and Frugilous 15, high-performance economy cars. The cars are fast, yet frugal and relatively reasonably priced.
Alfa Romeo 4C
With combined mileage of 28 mpg, the 4C sips gas compared to a full-blown supercar like the Lamborghini Aventador, which achieves only 12 mpg combined. Of course, the Aventador does the 0 to 60 run in 3.1 seconds while the 4C is almost leisurely, in comparison, at 5.3 seconds. The MSRP on the 4C is $53,900.
